Oh man, I’m just gonna dispense with what I remember listening to, because it’s not really clear. Probably more classic rock and less regrettable rock, but I also remember that 2001 is when the first Gorillaz album came out, and I was totally into that, and still am.
These days, 2001 has aged quite well. Cannibal Ox’s The Cold Vein is an album from my later hip hop phase that I still come back to, the still amazing Deltron 3030 album, and the personal-era-defining Doomsday by MF Doom. Lovage is something I was introduced to on the trip back from the Olympic Penninsula earlier this year, and it’s catchy, sexy, sleaziness filled a void in my musical life.
Also, no discussion of 2001 can go by without mentioning Daft Punk’s Discovery. ABSOFUCKINLUTLYAMAZINGNATING.
