Interesting little post about a media reaction to a mother posting to Twitter during a family tragedy, and the author’s own similar occurance.
My fiancé and I experienced the flip side of this, using Twitter (and passed on to Facebook) to announce our engagement. We got a similar reaction, great reception from everybody we know on Twitter and Facebook, and even great stories of how the news spread from there. Even though it was a happy announcement, I do still think it was a bit of a drag to “manually” let everyone else know (ie parents, older relatives), though only a logistical challenge, not a displeasure.
It’s kind of exciting to have that sort of power to broadcast to your social circle, which is what I think Twitter is all about. It has a reputation of frivolity and lunchtime whimsy, but I think this is the first of a kind of tool that we will all integrate into our lives. In some ways, this is the real Internet revolution of connectivity.
